SAME OLD FOOL LYRICS

Mark Paul Smith

VERSE 1

Do you ever think about

The first time you kissed me

Probably not anymore

On a rainy Saturday

Do you ever miss me a little more

CHORUS

Time will fly through the darkest night

Tears will dry in the morning light

But I’m the same old fool I’m the same old fool

I’m the same old fool for you I’m the same old fool

VERSE 2

Can you tell me where we were

The last time you left me

I remember it well

Corner table French café

Said you couldn’t stay then you ran away

CHORUS

Time will fly through the darkest night

Tears will dry in the morning light

But I’m the same old fool I’m the same old fool

I’m the same old fool for you I’m the same old fool

BRIDGE

There’s thunder rolling in my heart tonight

Here comes the rain

VERSE 3

Someday you’ll be back again

But until then

I’ll be wondering when

Will we hold each other tight

Making everything all right

CHORUS

ABOUT THE SONG

Mark Paul Smith

“Same Old Fool” represents a more reflective stage—one defined by looking back and questioning the past. It explores the internal dialogue that follows a difficult relationship, where memories replay and doubts surface.

Though Mark wrote it, it’s still me creating an honest examination of vulnerability, asking whether the love was real and what compromises were made along the way. At the same time, the song carries an undercurrent of growth. It acknowledges that loving deeply is not a flaw, but it also recognizes the importance of not repeating the same patterns.

The emotional weight lies in that balance between self-awareness and self-compassion.
