ROAD TO DAMASCUS LYRICS
Mark Paul Smith

VERSE 1
It was a moonless night on a dusty trail
When I saw the light from beyond the pale
Then I heard the voice calling my name
I knew my life would never be the same

CHORUS
I was on the road to Damascus
On the road to Damascus
When I decided to surrender
On the road to you
Gave up my greed and guilt
Tore down the walls I built

VERSE 2
The dues I had to pay brought me to my knees
Taught me how to pray like a blind man sees
Then I heard the voice calling my name
I knew my life would never be the same
CHORUS
I was on the road to Damascus
On the road to Damascus
When I decided to surrender
On the road to you
Gave up my greed and guilt
Tore down the walls I built

CHORUS
I was on the road to Damascus
On the road to Damascus
When I decided to surrender
On the road to you
Took off the mask I wore
Walked out my prison door
ABOUT THE SONG
Mark Paul Smith
The Road to Damascus: Like Paul in the Bible, a woman has an epiphany on her spiritual path. The “you” in “On the road to you” means anyone or anything that can help her escape the prison of self. Giving up greed and guilt makes room for love and faith. The song invites everyone to get on the road and experience his or her own awakening.
